She sits close to Mariam. The two women traveled from Baidhabo together. Like Mariam she has three sons.“The first day into the journey, bandits stopped our vehicles, robbed us, and beat the men,” she says. “They took our money.” Awliya’s journey to Kenya began the day her family ran out of food. “There was no food in sight,” she says. “The drought didn’t stop. We decided to leave.” They left the next day in a group, using a truck. “That day the bandits robbed us.” The truck broke down 10 kilometers from the Kenyan border. The group walked from there. Awliya’s Story Summary: Dadaab, in northeastern Kenya, is considered the largest refugee camp in the world and it's growing. On August 5th, Dadaab registered its 400,000th refugee. Nine of ten come from Somalia--escaping decades of conflict and a drought that has taken their crops and their livestock. رفض نائب الرئيس السوداني حسبو محمد عبدالرحمن، التقارير الكاذبة التي تروج لتعرض أربعة ملايين مواطن للمجاعة، مطالباً أجهزة الصحافة بتقصي المعلومات من مصادرها الرسمية والتحلي بالمسؤولية في تناول الإشاعات التي تضر بسمعة البلاد.
وأكد حسبو، خلال تدشينه عمليات حصاد القمح بمشروع الواحة الزراعي بشرق النيل الذي تزرعه مجموعة دال، دعم الدولة للمبادرات الوطنية بإدخال التقانات الحديثة التي تزيد الإنتاجية وتحقق الاستغلال الأمثل للموارد الطبيعية وتستوعب عمالة مكثفة.
وامتدح الجهود التي بذلتها مجموعة دال للارتقاء بإنتاجية الفدان بواقع 25 جوالاً للفدان، مؤكداً دعم الدولة لاتجاه المجموعة للعمل في إضافة قيمة تسويقية لصادر الصمغ السوداني.
إلى ذلك، أعلن وزير الزراعة إبراهيم الدخيري، عن طفرة كبيرة في إنتاجية القمح هذا العام بمتوسط 20 جوالاً للفدان، وأن المساحة المزروعة هذا العام وقدرها 540 ألف فدان 70 في المئة منها من تقاوى سودانية 100 في المئة تقاوى (إمام).
وأضاف “هذه النوعية تعتبر من أفضل الأنواع وتصلح لإنتاج الخبز مباشرة ولا تحتاج لأي خلطات إضافية”.
إلى ذلك، قال والي الخرطوم عبدالرحيم محمد حسين، إن ولايته تعتبر أكبر منتج في البلاد للمنتجات الزراعية والحيوانية خاصة الدواجن والألبان والأعلاف، كما هي أكبر مستهلك لهذه المنتجات، معلناً اتخاذ عدد من الخطوات الداعمة للإنتاج.
