وسارت قوات واشنطن نحو 13 كيلومترا قبل أن تخوض معركة مع مرتزقة ألمان من إيسن كانوا ضمن القوات البريطانية إبان الثورة الأميركية، في شوارع ترنتون.
وقتل في المعركة ثلاثون جنديا ألمانيا، بينما لقي اثنان من جنود واشنطن حتفهما من البرد خلال المسيرة.
